New Teacher Success Secrets: Feeling Used & Abused?

I felt as a new teacher I was not adequately prepared for all of the many administrative tasks involved in teaching. I also was not adequately trained on how to use the computer networks, but thanks to my ESOL chair eventually figured everything out. It was a very overwhelming experience.

As a new teacher I often felt as if I was a burden whenever I asked for assistance, asked a question, or sought clarification. Predominately I was told to read the emails and usually nothing more.

Hence near the end of the year I felt violated, used, and abused.

Perhaps you feel the opposite, as if your students delivered the most abuse toward you. Depending on the age group you are teaching that is very likely. My deans were awesome and did a great job helping me manage my classrooms whenever students got unruly or became uncooperative.

The extent of the abuse I felt was more based on neglect and the lack of emotional support I received throughout the academic year. Yet my administrators were kind not to pressure me to attend atheltic events, etc. as I was recovering (medically and financially) from a car accident.

Nevertheless I now understand why new teachers quit being educators. Here are some secrets to uplift your spirit and keep you going daily.

1. Remember all of your summer vacation you get as an educator.

Your life consists of time and educators keep a lot of it for themselves in the grand scheme of things. Holidays off are a blessing and you rarely have to work on the weekends.

2. Remember you are uplifting, molding, shaping, and impacting future leaders.

The younger generation you teach and impact daily are being groomed for greatness because of you. Therefore keep your heart and mind focused on your students and don’t let the little things distract or get you down.

3. Discover your own teaching style and be true to yourself.

Pinpoint your passion and unique gifting. Grow and develop it to best serve your students and your school.

4. The sun always shines above the clouds.

Focus on the good things and eliminate the negative (most of which you cannot change anyhow) from your mind.

Jesus said, “I will make you fishers of men” (Mark 1:17).

Fishing happens usually one of two ways: with a hook and a net.

I liken the net approach to fishing nations, going into all the world to “seek and save the lost” (see Luke 19:10). Yet the evangelist Philip was also skillful in one-on-one evangelism. Being led by the Spirit of God to leave a great revival full of multitudes of people to whom he was preaching in the city of Samaria, Philip was taken by God to Gaza on the backside of the desert to speak to an Ethiopian of great authority (see Acts 8).

The divine appointment orchestrated by God was beautifully arranged, because when Philip arrived and showed up the Ethiopian was already reading the prophet Isaiah from the Bible (see Acts 8:26-29). Philip immediately asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” (v. 30)

Interestingly, Philip’s evangelistic approach began in the form of a question. Jesus was often no different in His approach. The Lord asked His disciple Peter, “Who do men say that I am? Who do you say that I am?” (see Matthew 16:13,15).

Here are some good soul winning and evangelism questions to use to open hearts in route to salvation when you converse with people on a daily basis.

– Have you discovered the grace of God?

– Have you ever felt burdened and weighed down by sin?

– Have you ever felt guilt and shame, but didn’t know what to do about it?

– Do you know how to be reconciled to your heavenly Father and experience the blessings of heaven?

– Have you experienced the embrace of our loving God?

– Do you know the fullness of life available to you in Jesus Christ?

– Have you experienced the joy of newness of life?

– Do you know the Prince of peace who quiets all stress and strife in your life?

– Do you have any questions about God or things I can pray for you concerning?

– What is the best thing and the worst thing you have ever heard about God?

– Have you ever known religion and religious people to misrepresent the heart of God?

– How do you and your family feel about God?

TV Guide and NY Times say Oprah Winfrey’s Empire is Crumbling

TV Guide’s Chloe Tse article dated 05-27-2008 reports tremors in Oprah’s media empire.

According to TV Guide Winfrey’s new-age spiritualism and political persuasion is jeopardizing her marketability in the media, thereby diminishing her status.

Perhaps Winfrey’s longtime reign over the media is coming to an abrupt end. For so long revered as nearly a saint because of her uplifting programming, Oprah is now beginning to receive criticism for her views. It has often been said that one should not talk about their religion and politics. Oprah is defying the odds and daring to do both.

I salute her for her authenticity and boldness to express her individuality. Yet doing so is simultaneously hurting her marketability. Nevertheless on the flip side of that argument, we do well to remember that controversy does sell. Who knows the queen of TV could remake herself into an activist for worthy causes and a voice against social injustice. Nobody can dispute Oprah has done and is doing a lot of good in the world. And with such influence why shouldn’t she let her voice be heard?

The New York Times says Oprah’s choices are gaining skepticism and audiences are tuning out. According to Nielson Media Research, for the third straight year in a row, Oprah is experiencing a decline in audience viewers.

Research shows Oprah’s program has dropped 7% of its viewers this year alone. Oprah’s other projects also seem to be suffering. For example her reality show Oprah’s Big Give debuted this winter with a huge audience and beat every program on television except for American Idol, but also experienced the loss of almost a third of its audience.

Winfrey’s readership of O her magazine, which you would think to have increased with the nonstop promotion of Tolle’s book, suffered a beating and loss of 10% over the last 3 years according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Even Oprah’s favorite and highly promoted books in her book club are suffering harsh criticism. Apparently Oprah either didn’t adequately study the demographics of her viewers, or disregarded her viewers beliefs altogether. Women in the deep south who heavily watch Oprah’s program are typically Christian and many supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton.  Hence Oprah has cut her own throat by alienating Christendom with her new age books and shows, while simultaneously disenchanting white women when she endorsed Barak Obama for President.

As a Christian who read “A New Earth” and found it a in meaningful book, I understand both how Oprah feels and religious folks who don’t play around with their faith. Certainly not all Christians can eat the fish and spit out the bones when reading spiritual truths originating from another ideological orbit. Politically Americans aren’t very tolerant or understanding either, as evidenced by the great political divide in our country between Republicans and Democrats.

I commend Oprah for being true to what she believes in and bold enough to share what she thinks will empower people to live better lives. Her intentions and motives are certainly pure. If Oprah were solely money motivated, she would not continue to promote her spiritual and political views. Yet being already established financially, Oprah is embarking upon larger more meaningful missions to change the world. O Ambassadors is just one new endeavor Oprah is partnering with Free the Children to liberate and educate kids worldwide.

Hopefully Oprah who says she is a Christian will not find problems with parents concerned about their children getting sold new-age ideas. I think Oprah is doing a great work and deserves our support. Yet at the same time we who have beliefs of our own should not be any less vocal than Oprah.

Anything worth having in life requires a sacrifice. For Oprah it is a drop in viewer ratings, book sales, and magazine distribution. Nevertheless the rewards of the sacrifice should be sufficient to warrant the losses. Often we must first be willing to lose in order to win.

It cannot be disputed that ultimately we attract what we are. We cannot please everyone and succeed. We are at our best when we are true to ourselves and transparent about it. That Oprah is and that is why we love her.

Beyond touching hearts and putting tears in our eyes, Oprah also makes people think. Now raising eyebrows and making us scratch our heads, Oprah is finding herself as she further evolves. She recently said on her program that she admits to not having enough time to truly enjoy herself.  Perhaps as Oprah becomes more present and lets go of the ambition of sustaining her empire, critics will be silenced and her true spirit will emerge in purity untainted from the labels many have tried to presumptuously give her.

Dividing audiences is not always a bad thing as even the Word of God itself divides, while exposing our hearts (see Hebrews 4:12). Although Oprah’s television audience is predominately middle-aged white women who support Senator Hillary Clinton, most Americans are awaking to the reality that we need some color in the White House to truly get real and heal the homeland.

Angry criticism of new-age spiritualism and political disputes though a common message thread on the message boards from her website, Oprah will continue to transcend the accusations and come out on top as she honors the God of truth.  Love rejoices in the truth and we should do no less.

Next up for Oprah is OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. featuring programming that will reflect Winfrey’s vision of what she considers empowering programming.

You can’t go wrong when you touch, teach, and transform your audience.

It’s not about being the queen of the media as much as it is about living a meaningful life of purpose to impact humanity.

Making Bricks for Pharoah

Oh, no my wonderful Lord

We’re making bricks for Pharoah

Jehovah-jireh don’t delay to show

Your mighty power so all may know

That you provide for your people abundantly

Once again come forth and open the Red Sea

Provide miraculously and pay taxes supernaturally

Open the mouths of fish to cough up cash happily

As in times past as you did for the apostle Peter

Don’t let financial constraints silence and deter

Your people from seeking first the kingdom of God

Show yourself strong so greedy creditors will applaud

Let debt cancellation and cash flow magnificently

Let financial acumen and skill break forth intuitively

Within your people’s hearts and minds spiritually

Creative ideas to solve all our monetary problems

Divine appointments, alignment, and relationships

So we can rejoice, stay afloat, and not be a sinking ship

El Shaddai the nourishing one Father to whom we come

Help us because of our endless toil life is no more fun

Grievously vexed by our employers we cry for liberation

We need far more than the power of the resurrection

We also need wisdom, wealth, prosperity, and satisfaction

Alleviation from this gruesome plight of financial despair

Arise for your namesake oh God and show us you care

Before stress and strain prematurely grays our lovely hair

Or makes it fall out entirely as we worry and agonize daily

No more do we wish to make bricks for an oppressive Pharoah

Arise dear Lord so with the Great Commission we can boldly go

And preach the Good News of Christ throughout the entire earth

Telling all souls the glories of your name and about the new birth.

Job Hunting – A Full Time Job

Job hunting

Has become to me

A full time job

Never ending

My qualifications

Always refrencing

My past accomplishments

My endless education

My work experience

My professional acquaintance

With key people in the work place

God Almighty give me some grace

To endure and continue pursuing

Meaningful employment without complaining

Because I get rejected because of my skin color,

My age, my looks, my limitations, lack of conformity

My authenticity, humanity, and bold individuality

Shall I cease being a human and just be a conformist

Sell my soul for money and do whatever comes along

Or believe for the best, be selective, and stand strong?

Yes, I have to pay the bills and can’t be a ding dong

For one who doesn’t care for his own family is an infidel

Or even worse according to the Bible, but help me God

I’m drowning in applications and this employment process

Arise and give me a breakthrough loving heavenly Father

For your Name sake answer my prayer and don’t delay

For years of tireless job hunting has left me most weary

As king David in distress prayed, “Send now prosperity”

Enough of my dire poverty, inconsistency, and calamity

Bring on the blessings God and use my talents and ability

To glorify thee and build your people and kingdom in the earth

Bring forth in me professionally and occupationally a new birth.

Open the windows of heaven over me and move hearts favorably

Direct me inwardly by your Spirit so I know where to labor specifically

Whom to entreat professionally and where to work purposefully

Help dear God, hearken to the cry of your child crying out to thee.

Oprah Discerns A Demon In Eckhart Tolle’s Pain Body – A New Earth Free From Demonic Influences

While Oprah and Eckhart Tolle reviewed chapter 5 of the book A New Earth, the two discussed “the pain body” as Eckhart calls it.

Tolle: “But don’t underestimate the pain-body’s ability to draw out some, to make you unconscious again, to push some kind of button, and you will find yourself reacting again. Because pain-bodies are very cunning, very clever. And they know exactly what will make you unconscious and what will make you react.”

Oprah: “You speak of it like it’s a creature that’s like an alien force inside of us. Yeah”

Tolle: “Yes, that’s how I see it.”

Here both Eckhart and Oprah identify the demonic activity that seeks to tempt and torment us all, which ultimately causes torment and brings havoc into our lives. Jesus said the devil, whom He calls a thief, comes to “kill, steal, and destroy” (John 10:10). The first thing Satan’s demons seek to steal from humanity is their time because life consists of time. Demons seek to mentally bombard us with thoughts, temptations, and accusations so they can bog us down within the brain. To overwhelm our thoughts with excessive external stimuli thwarts the spiritual life within and causes our souls to be restless. Once our souls are inwardly troubled and restless, demons can more easily get us to a place of unconsciousness where we easily react.

A woman from Canaan came to Jesus crying that her daughter was grievously vexed by a demon spirit (Matthew 15:22).

A demon spirit vexed one man’s son causing him to be lunatic and often times making him to fall into the fire and water (Matthew 17:15).

Jesus healed many people who suffered with various diseases caused by unclean spirits who vexed them (Luke 6:18).

Peter in like fashion as Jesus also dealt with demon spirits troubling people causing illness and healed them (Acts 5:16).

Even the great apostle Paul who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament, acknowledged he was buffeted by a troubling demon spirit. Seemingly, the Lord allowed the spirit to occasionally tempt Paul to keep him dependent on the Lord’s power. The apostle Paul says in his own words: “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure” (2 Corinthians 12:7).

So even the great apostle Paul was not above temptation and the occasional demonic visitation that he in the Lord’s power had to overcome. Concerning the demon spirit, Paul said: “For this thing I besought the Lord three times, that it might depart from me. And Jesus said unto me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).

And so too must we trust in the Lord and the Holy Spirit’s power to drive out demon spirits that would come trying to trouble us. The battleground is in the mind. Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, which is the place of the skull (Matthew 27:33). Given that there are no meaningless details in the Bible, we must see the connection between life and death. The crucifixion occurred at Golgotha the place of the skull, because after the mind and thought is adequately dealt with, we can be free to experience the power of the resurrection and live in the Spirit.

Invite Paul to your city to set people free from demons!
