Life Balance – Cultivating Peace & Inner Harmony

Life at times can be so stressful as we inwardly yearn and endeavor to journey to the place where we desire to be in our lives. Nevertheless along the way we must cultivate inner peace, happiness and harmony.

We must learn to enjoy the journey en route to the destination.

This is more easier said than done, given the extent of human impatience in the midst of any process leading to personal progress.

Keep your head up and your heart calm. Maintain your composure and remember that this may be your last day on the planet. Since there are no guaranties of tomorrow, live every day fully and as if it might be your last.

Be well and live your dreams daily.

Rambo goes to Burma to rescue Christian missionaries

I saw Stallone’s Rambo movie, I think volume 3, where he goes to Burma. It was phenomenal. The film was about a former Vietnam commando living in Thailand who was approached by Christian missionaries desiring to make a difference in war-torn Burma. After persuading “Rambo” to take them over to Burma by boat, all hell breaks loose and the missionaries get a taste of reality when they meet the Burmese military junta.

Rambo and a group of mercenaries saved the day, but not before some intense combat that left nearly all the missionaries dead.

Great film. “Die for something or live for nothing!”

A Beautiful Cardinal Flew Toward Me

As I walked into my bedroom what did I see?

I looked through the window in the distance

And to my great joy saw God answer for me

A personal prayer I had uttered weeks earlier

A simple and heartfelt request for a cardinal

A beautiful bird I had not seen in some time

Why I desired to see this beautiful red bird

I know not particularly, but it appealed to me

Perhaps cardinals in Florida are a bit of a rarity

Beyond the black birds and bluejays secondarily

From my days as a boy with a birdhouse out back

Sometimes the squirrels the bluejays would attack

Yet today this gorgeous cardinal with an orange beek

Was strangely still as he was listening for me to speak

Fully red from pointed fluffy head to luscious tail

Upon seeing this bird it made me feel quite well

Although in the distance sitting upon my fence

I somehow knew this lovely bird was God sent

For that Sunday in my office I had been writing

But not only writing, also whistling a worship song

A powerful church song in my spirit all the day long

Feeling a sense of sweet serendipity, I watched intently

When suddenly increasing my joy the bird flew to me

Drawing near to hear equally with intense curiosity

Surprisingly straight to me, directly toward the window

Stopping to rest just feet from me upon the clothes line

My spirit rejoiced within, my mind content and sublime

For not only was I aroused by nature but my loving Creator

Who truly answers my heartfelt prayer, proving He does care

Therefore I shall not be trapped by unbelief’s foul snare

Because I know my God knows atop my head every hair

My heavenly Father’s ears are open, His eyes looking down

Undoubtedly upon me His marvelous grace does abound.

Church Growth Consultant For Pastors and Congregations – 15 Reasons Why People Leave Your Church

It often baffles Pastors and church staff why people leave “their” church. Some folks visit and never return. Others who were a vital part of the church community suddenly disappear through the proverbial backdoor.

How can Pastors and church staff grow themselves to prevent loss of life in the church?
This is not only a compelling question, but also the very hinge that holds every congregation together. Life begins within. If the foundation is not strong and properly laid, it cannot sustain outward and ongoing growth.

Jesus said we spiritually know people like trees by their fruit or the lack thereof (see Matthew 7:16-20).

Here are some reasons people leave a church:

1. Lack of warmth, hospitality, and affirmation.

When you first walk into a church, what do you feel? What do you see? What do you hear? If there are no smiling greeters with a sweet spirit to welcome you, it is easy to wonder if you are even welcomed. People like to go where they are celebrated not merely tolerated.

Does your church make people feel like they are burdening or blessing you when they arrive? Do people feel safe or judged in your presence? Do you love people unconditionally, or do you have some ulterior motive driving you?

Die to your agenda and embrace the great commandment to love people.

People are wounded, hurt, and disillusioned. They need to be comforted and consoled. People need a loving touch, kind word, and a hug. A good word makes the heart glad (Proverbs 12:25 b).

Love, embrace, and affirm people in your midst. Many people attend church because they are hurting, feel lonely, and need to be encouraged. Don’t miss the divine appointment and send people away feeling worse than when they came to you.

2. Lack of joy and spiritual atmosphere.

The best way to create a healthy spiritual atmosphere is through praise and worship. Worship is a time when God becomes the focus and we die to ourselves. Only as people focus on the Lord do they quiet their souls and concerns. We all have innumerable cares and challenges, but as we uplift our Creator in worship the Presence of the Holy Spirit can attend to matters of the heart and sweep away all despair within.

Apart from the divine Presence of God’s Holy Spirit, church is nothing more than a religious social club void of God altogether. The Holy Spirit inhabits the praises of God’s people (Psalm 22:3). Therefore enter God’s glorious Presence with singing and gladness of heart (Psalm 100:2).

Fullness of joy is found in the Presence of the Lord (Psalm 16:11) as we open our hearts to the Lord and express our love for God. Joy is captivating and contagious! Truly the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10), without which congregations die and diminish in number.

Remember God seeks those who worship Him (John 4:23). God prospers those who serve Him (Psalm 35:27). Grudgingly serving God however is burdensome. Only as we receive God’s love and embrace His heart for us, can we be inspired to worship the Lord our Maker. As God’s love and life is adequately expressed and exalted during worship, we are touched and transformed in the Presence of the Lord (see 1 Samuel 10:9; Ezekiel 36:26-27).

3. Lack of an enriching word from God to build their lives.

The Word of God’s grace builds people up, carrying them into the arms of a loving heavenly Father and empowering them to enter their personal promised land (see Acts 20:32). Churches that become overly encumbered with announcements, exhortations to give, and shouting from the pulpit often lack the nourishing Word of God.

Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Feed the sheep Jesus has entrusted to you with the milk and meat of the Word of God (see John 21:17; 1 Peter 2:2).

4. Lack of a family environment and sense of community.

Families with children want to feel secure and know that their children will be cared for. An excellent and clean nursery with professional staff is vital to instill confidence within people that you genuinely care for their family. Ministries for youth of all ages and adults with various interests all create affinity and a sense of community.

As fellow citizens in the kingdom of God we must endeavor to rejoice in the commonwealth and embrace the household of faith (see Ephesians 3:15). As we do we shall unite and rejoice together as a precious family in God that is one in Spirit.

5. Lack of meaningful ministry opportunities.

As people grow and mature spiritually they want to be able to use their gifts, talents, and abilities to serve. Amazingly, people grow more in six months when doing ministry than in six years of receiving ministry. Otherwise boredom sets in and quarreling will begin among the ranks. The church of the living God is both a family and an army. When the army serves purposefully, they are too focused and tired to fight one another. When the army sits and does nothing, they get frustrated and angrily speak against its leaders without a clearly communicated vision.

Jesus came not to receive ministry, but to minister to others (Matthew 20:28). It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).

6. Lack of vision, focus, and purpose for the congregation and its members.

Church leaders must grow in God’s grace and ability to communicate “heavenly vision” and divine direction (see Acts 26:19). We must “purpose in the spirit” as God directs us through prayer (see Acts 19:21).

Jesus came to “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). Jesus told His disciples to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:20). We therefore must touch people locally, while also reaching to impact nations globally (see Acts 1:8). As we do so our communities will be impacted and our church members will grow as we “go into all the world to preach the good news” of Jesus (Mark 16:15).

7. Excessive competition, pride, and backbiting among church members.

When a worldwide vision is not imparted to God’s people, they become focused on and bicker about trivial things of no eternal consequence. Murmuring and complaining cut off the life flow of God’s Spirit and quench the warmth within a congregation. Pastors and leaders should be peacemakers and make haste to put out small fires before they spread and do great damage (Matthew 5:9; Hebrews 12:15; Ecclesiastes 9:18).

People have enough drama in their professional and family life. They go to church to get away from drama, not encounter and be overwhelmed with more of it.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace and God’s kids are peacemakers (see Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 5:9). God is love (1 John 4:16), which is first shown through patience (1Corinthians 13). If we say we are born of God, than let us be patient with others as they mature and grow in divine grace.

8. Lack of fathering and mentoring from the Pastor and church staff.

Churches across the country are full of teachers, orators, and preachers. Few however make themselves accessible to the people to touch them at a deep level. The apostle Paul acknowledged this tendency among ministers himself (see 1 Corinthians 4:15). Jesus showed His disciples the Father heart of God (see John 14:8-9). If we want to truly nourish and see people grow, we must give of ourselves to people (see 1 Thessalonians 2:8). Otherwise we are nothing more than a hired hand that cannot be trusted (see John 10:13)

9. Unorganized church life

People need clarity and things to be done orderly so they can follow along as participants (see 1Corinthians 14:40). The best airports are those that are well organized and clearly laid out. Otherwise being unable to discern directions, facilities, and resources one can become frustrated and discouraged. This is how many church members feel.

10. Insufficient fun activities to be social and make friends.

People like to have fun and be entertained. Jesus came to give us abundant life not merely church (see John 10:10). God is a Creator. Be creative and make things fun for people. Otherwise they will go somewhere else. Remember God is both happy and holy. Embrace and exemplify both in your life.

11. No sense of adventure and personal challenge to grow.

Jesus had His disciples leave the comfort zone and “launch out’ into the unknown (see Luke 5:4). Only as we are stretched do we grow. Physical strength comes through resistance training at the gym. Life and ministerial challenges should be encouraged, as they will bring about unprecedented growth in people.

Be like Jesus. Refuse to let your church members stagnate and stink. Keep them moving and give them opportunity to use their giftings.

12. Overwhelming amount of pressure to give resources, time, and talents.

The media and corporate world have made merchandise of people. Consumerism and comparison saturates nearly every level of society, as we are made to compare ourselves with others. Feeling and flipping between being haves and have-nots dwarfs our true identity, while thwarting and hindering our divine purpose.

The Church of Jesus Christ is the one place where humanity ought to be able to sit down and rest without feeling as if they are being made merchandise of (see Psalm 23:1-2; Ezekiel 34:1-4). To fleece and rape God’s sheep for personal financial gain, ministerial fame, and simply to fulfill your dream is insensitive and a misuse of the divine vocation to which we have been called.

Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit when taking offerings, presenting needs, and recruiting volunteers. Don’t twist arms and apply undo pressure by making people feel guilty. Let the Lord speak to His people, which if He does not perhaps you either need to work a bit harder to fill in the gaps or maybe lay down a personal agenda God may not be blessing.

13. Lack of genuine interest from the Pastor and staff in the personal life of its members.

Jesus took a genuine interest in people. He spoke in parables to properly relate and enter their world. Too often we are irrelevant and clueless pertaining to the lives of our people. Jesus asked questions to gauge where people were in their lives.

Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Matthew 20:32)

14. Ego and individualistic mentality among the Pastor and church ministers hinders the life flow.

This mentality breeds spiritual poverty and animosity within church members. As pride, comparison, competition, and ego become king sincerity and transparency leave. Thereafter walls are erected relationally throughout the congregation as people endeavor to protect and project their image, after which genuine life flow ceases to exist.

15. Lack of humility and service in the hearts of Pastors and leadership.

Jesus said the chief leader should become the servant of all (see Matthew 20:25-26). Lack of heartfelt service flowing from leadership breeds distrust and causes a disconnection among the people. Arrogance always eventually alienates people.

“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life” (Proverbs 22:4).

Manifest these in your life and church leadership and all will be well within your congregation. People emulate what they see in their leaders. There shall be like people, like priest (see Hosea 4:9).

Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi conferred honorary Canadian citizenship while under house arrest in Myanmar

Burma’s pro-democracy icon and Noble Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who is under house arrest, will be conferred an honorary citizenship by the government of Canada.

I think it’s so cool Burma’s human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Laureate who has struggled selflessly for years for the liberation of her people, will be honored in such a way.

My wife is Canadian and I think that’s a first class move of solidarity with Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma.

I’ve been to Burma several times ministering in various churches covertly and was disgusted with the level of governmental corruption I experienced. From the time you go through customs and cross the border, the greedy government is in your pocket making you exchange $300 USD in exchange for the FEC (federal worthless currency), which even the locals don’t want. Then to be of any value in Burma you must exchange the FECs for chat (the local currency), which you lose about 7% value upon immedite exchange. So basically the government beyond the visa immigration fees, wants another $21 upon arrival per person for themselves.

What makes my blood boil is the way you can’t travel freely throughout Burma. Nevertheless I went to several black out zones to preach the Good News of Christ to former University students (who couldn’t attend University for a while because the ignorant and fearful government had for some time shut the Universities down in an effort to practice mind control and a futile attempt to rid the land of democratic ideals from the West).

Laugh out loud at such governmental stupidity! Now the monks and people throughout Burma are rising up and boldly challenging the military junta – some even dying for their battle for freedom. The recent cyclone that devastated the country showed the heart of the governmental junta who withheld foreign assistance and aid for weeks, fearing they’d lose control over the people.

I pray God Almighty breaks the back of the enemy and causes the evil to bow before the good in Burma and be brought to justice swiftly before international tribunals for crimes against humanity. I pray corrupt governmental officials in China backing this brutal regime in Burma also be brought to justice.

Women Handling Embarrassing Wardrobe Malfunctions

Wardrobe malfunctions are embarrassing for women overly engrossed in seeking the approval of others. The secure and confident woman embraces her own humanity, having a healthy degree of detachment from people’s opinions. She therefore can laugh off momentary mishaps as a part of life. Laughter and not taking yourself too seriously is the easiest way to elegantly overcome embarrassment and find relief in any situation.

What was your most embarrassing moment? Do tell ladies!

Coworkers Driving You Nuts – What Do Your Coworkers Do That Drive You Crazy?

My co-workers come into my office too often and break my focus, hindering my work productivity. Talking about non-work related matters, complaining about their latest irritation, and calling to ramble on about nothing of importance.

As a conflict resolution specialist and life coach, I suggest the following to deal with such annoyances.

1. Don’t answer the telephone when you are working.

2. Screen calls and attend to only those that are important.

3. Lock your office door.

4. Put in ear plugs while working at your cubicle to minimize distractions.

5. Politely ask your co-workers not to disturb you.

6. Ask your boss to relocate you to a more quiet place in the office so you can minimize distractions and be more productive.

7. Tell your colleagues at work your ears aren’t garbage cans, neither are you a dumping ground for all their complaints. Tell them to be proactive and solve their own problems.

Indonesia – The Land Of Miracles

Indonesia is a country that has captivated my heart and stirred me to new depths of inspiration.

Every trip I’ve taken through Indonesia, there has been something miraculous and supernatural that has occurred. Though such is typical for my life everywhere I go, Indonesia had something additional and extra special. Indonesia has an intangible quality that intoxicates your heart, propels your passion, and empowers you to move in the miraculous.

My ministry has taken me from the islands of Sumatra all the way to Irian Jaya, bordering Papau New Guinea. I can honestly say the islands and islanders are fantastic. The few isolated incidents of terrorism do happen, but I can live with it for the rewards. Not only do people honor me and treat me like a movie star, but most importantly the supernatural power of God to touch and transform lives is flows incredibly.

I’ve seen healings and deliverances from demons. Others broken hearted have been comforted and healed of emotional wounds. Families have been restored and people reconciled. I guess I’ve discovered my country and calling.

Though I’ve been to over 50 countries worldwide, whenever I am asked “What’s your favorite country and place to travel?” I always reply “Indonesia.” Just the mention of the name of the country brings tears to my eyes.

The depth of my spiritual experiences in Indonesia, the sincerity of the people, the thrill of the surf, and the warm sunshine all swallow me up stealing my heart.

I now must figure out a way how to translate and publish all of my books into Bahasa, after which I want to embark on a motivational speaking and life purpose coaching practice there. I’ve got to find some way to survive there financially. Thankfully the people are generous and do pay for services rendered. Every church I’ve ever ministered in insisted on giving me a love offering.

I guess if I follow my heart and vision, the provision will supernaturally show up somehow. This has been my life story thus far. The only time the money is not there is when I shrink back in fear and don’t go ahead full force.

Yeah! Indonesia is the place for me! I would love to become a citizen and buy a house there near the beach.

Paul F Davis produced two documentaries on Indonesia, which he currently needs volunteer videographers to help complete the project.  Basically, the raw footage needs to be edited.

Invite Paul to speak in your city and tell about Indonesia. Paul’s unforgettable and inspiring talks will revolutionize your world.

Motivational speaker Paul Davis calls Indonesia “the land of miracles” where the supernatural happens and powerful miracles take place. Paul has traveled throughout Indonesia from east to west, touching several of the world’s largest archipelago’s islands and experiencing the miraculous among the Indonesians.

Breaking Down Walls – Lessons From 11-9 For A Post 9-11 Era

The Berlin Wall, known in the Soviet Union and in the German Democratic Republic as the “Anti-Fascist Protective Rampart,” was a separation barrier between West Berlin and East Germany (the German Democratic Republic), which closed the border between East and West Berlin for 28 years. Construction on the wall began on August 13, 1961, and it was dismantled in the weeks following November 9, 1989. The Berlin Wall was the most prominent part of the inner German border and an iconic symbol of the Cold War.

Conceived by the East German administration of Walter Ulbricht and approved by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, it was built during the post-World War II period of divided Germany, in an effort to stop the drain of labour and economic output associated with the daily migration of huge numbers of professionals and skilled workers from East to West Berlin, and the attendant defections, which hurt the Communist bloc economically and politically.

The Wall was successful at decreasing emigration (escapes – “Republikflucht” in German) from 2.5 million between 1949 and 1962 to 5,000 between 1962 and 1989.[2] However, it was a propaganda disaster for East Germany and the Communist bloc. It became a key symbol of what Western powers regarded as Communist tyranny, particularly after the high-profile shootings of would-be defectors.

Political liberalization in the late 1980s, associated with the decline of the Soviet Union, led East Germany to relax border restrictions, culminating in mass demonstrations and the fall of the East German government.

On November 9, 1989, the government announced that crossing of the border would be permitted. Masses of East Germans approached and then crossed the wall, and were joined by crowds of West Germans in a celebratory atmosphere. Over the next few weeks parts of the wall were chipped away by a euphoric public and by souvenir hunters; it was later removed using industrial equipment.

How can we daily chip away at and break down walls in a post 9/11 era?

1. Refuse to be gripped and governed by fear.
Fear is self-centered revolving around self-preservation. Fear has torment and is paralyzing. Fear is interest paid in advance on something you most likely will never own. It has been said ninety percent of our fears never occur. Therefore the only thing to fear is fear itself. Be bold, courageous, and fearless!

2. Believe the best about people, until they prove otherwise.
People should be innocent until proven guilty. Seek to prove people worthy, rather than looking for guilt. There is good in all of us that needs to be affirmed and recognized. Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Before you entertain and listen to the bad about a person, ask to hear about the good.

3. Love and accept people unconditionally.
The Creator and universe loves and accepts us unconditionally as human beings. Do likewise. Create a culture of love and acceptance. As you do a community to which others want to belong will be created. Give people hope to belong, believe, and become.

4. Be hopeful and expect the best from people.
When you show a positive expectation toward people, you cause them to want to live up to your expectations. It is the force of faith in operation pulling people higher. Speak to and address people’s potential. Enlarge their vision and horizon paving the way for them to step into it.

5. Don’t be paralyzed by presumption and erroneous predispositions.
Beware of propaganda. Don’t believe everything the media and people tell you. Most often they are misinformed or only partially telling the entire story. Do your homework before wholly embracing something as gospel truth.

6. Investigate and seek the truth.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.  Not everything you hear is worth listening to. Truth must be tested and examined over time. Lies last but for a moment. The truth however is timeless and always does endure. Hold to the truth and don’t sell out to compromise.

7. Celebrate and honor all peoples.
As you live and let live, you shall liberate people. Celebrating and honoring people is the first way we bond with them. Before we can together build, we must first bond. Let the bonds of brotherhood grow, increase, and be strengthened.

8. Forgive and live.
We all make mistakes. Give people another chance. We as individuals and nations learn over time. For some it takes more time than for others to catch on. As we forgive, we free ourselves from carrying hostility and hate within our hearts. When we forgive we live and allow others to do the same.

9. Be patient, peaceful, and progressive.

Change doesn’t happen overnight. It is progressive and ongoing. Strive to be patient with people and nations as we all evolve. People make changes in an atmosphere of love. Russia’s Gorbachev brought down the wall because of President Reagan’s charm and heartfelt appeal. Reagan never threatened Gorbachev with war if he didn’t obey.

Love is patient and kind. Patience and a peaceful disposition often precedes progress. Nobody likes to be pushed. Patience tenderly and purposefully pulls people by their heart strings forward progressively.

10. Let dialogue and diplomacy replace hostility.
National dictators often just want to be recognized on the global scene and acknowledged. By welcoming everyone to the table to talk, we can diffuse much hostility and build bridges internationally. Let us all continue to break down walls between us so we can be a global community interconnected with heartfelt understanding and compassion.
