Holy Spirit Etiquette and Praying with Violent Faith – Todd Bentley, Lee Grady, and Charisma

Somebody sent me Lee Grady’s recent article (posted below), which I agree with in part. Undoubtedly unusual occurrences and methods are at times prompted by the Holy Spirit, but the normal practice is to walk in the fruit of the Holy Spirit while yielding to and giving place to God’s mighty manifestations.

I remember when I was ministering throughout France one guy came to the altar with a spirit of pride and began speaking in demonic tongues. I felt led by the Spirit to hit him in the stomach and dislodge the demon troubling him. I gave him a good beating to say the least, but honestly the breakthrough never came because of my fleshly violence. The breakthrough came when I simply asked (well, kind of commanded in the spirit of boldness – to the joy and perhaps embarassment of his wife) the man to get on his knees.

Once the man was on his knees and surrendered his life to Jesus, then the drama stopped and the gentle Holy Spirit powerfully did his work in the man’s heart. How do I know the Spirit led the unusual altercation at the altar which was unordinary for me? Well, the man wasn’t offended in the least and went away happy. Perhaps he was simply so hungry for God that he was gracious to get ahold of the Lord any way possible. Nevertheless there was something accomplished with boldness and gentleness simultaneously.

We therefore must be led by the Spirit to love and lift people into the loving Presence of a living God. (Romans 8:14)

BAM! POW! WHEN PRAYER MINISTRY Gets VIOLENT
-by J. Lee Grady (Charisma).

Lakeland Revival leader Todd Bentley’s unusual prayer methods
have triggered questions about Holy Spirit etiquette. For weeks the
blogosphere has been sizzling with comments, pro and con, about
the unusual ministry style of Todd Bentley, the leader of the
Lakeland Revival in Florida. Thousands of people have watched the
tattooed evangelist shout “Bam! Bam!” as he prays for the sick and
interviews those who say they were instantly healed.

Nobody could ever accuse Bentley of lacking zeal. And he always
gives Jesus the credit for the healings he announces on God TV
every night. But he has come under fire because of video clips
from a sermon in which he says the Holy Spirit told him to use
violent means to heal people.

The sermon, preached in Lakeland and posted on YouTube,
features Bentley demonstrating how he (1) banged a woman’s
crippled legs “like a baseball bat” on a stage; (2) tackled,
mounted
and choked a man to free him from a demon; (3) shoved a Chinese
man to the ground to pray for him (causing the man to lose a tooth);
(4) kicked an older woman in the face with his biker boot to heal
her; and (5) “leg-dropped” a pastor—a professional wrestling
tactic,
popularized by Hulk Hogan, in which the aggressor jumps in the
air and lands on his opponent with one leg outstretched.

When we asked Bentley about his unorthodox methods, he
assured Charisma that none of the people were hurt and that
many were healed. He also explained that British evangelist Smith
Wigglesworth, a legend in the hall of fame of Pentecostal
preachers, used similar methods.

So if Wigglesworth healed a man by punching him in the stomach,
and Bentley sees similar results by using techniques borrowed
from the World Wrestling Entertainment, does that mean we
should teach all altar workers to become more aggressive?

I know that people have been healed in the meetings in Lakeland. I
know of a woman from South Carolina who was healed of cystic
fibrosis while sitting in one of Bentley’s services. (She was never
touched by anyone.) I also know a man from California who was
healed of sleep apnea while watching the Lakeland revival on
television. Jesus is most definitely still in the healing business.

I also know that Bentley is not performing Hulk Hogan stunts from
the stage in Lakeland every night. But because his comments
about violent prayer have been so widely broadcast, we need to
call a timeout and make it clear that hitting people is wrong, period.
Bentley’s teaching on unorthodox prayer methods should include a
disclaimer: “DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME.” Here are three reasons why:

1. The Holy Spirit is gentle. Jesus boldly drove the moneychangers
out of the temple with a whip. But when He prayed for sick people,
there is no record of Him head-banging or leg-dropping anyone. He
rebuked evil spirits authoritatively, but He never hit, slapped,
choked, mounted or kicked a person. He was meek, which means
He knew how to control His strength, and He never threw His
weight around.

When He commissioned His followers to heal the sick, Jesus told
them to “lay” hands on them (Mark 16:18). Since gentleness is
part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (along with kindness—see Gal.
5:22-23), any ministry we do should be tempered with mercy and
concern.

2. If we minister in the flesh, we will reap flesh. Several years ago I
was standing near the stage in a large meeting when a visiting
evangelist said he wanted to pray for all the ministers in the room.
Immediately some ushers yanked me up to the platform and the
man of God raced over to “pray” for me. Before I knew it, I was
assaulted in the name of the Lord.

Whack! The guy hit me so hard that I fell down and held my face in
my hands to hide my grimace. The skin on my neck was stinging.
When I finally went back to my seat, a friend ran over to
congratulate me, saying, “Wow, I saw you go down under the
power!” I had to grit my teeth and ask the Lord to help me forgive
the preacher who inflicted pain instead of a holy impartation.

Why do we think that more bodies on the floor equals “more
anointing”—especially when the evangelist shoves people to the
ground or slaps them silly? To build a ministry on such foolish
theatrics is to trust in the arm of the flesh.

3. Somebody’s going to get hurt. We reported last week that a
Tennessee man sued his charismatic church because its pastoral
staff did not provide the proper “catchers” when he fell down
during
a prayer meeting last year. Matthew Lincoln of Knoxville said he
struck the hard floor of the sanctuary with his head and aggravated
a disc problem in his back, resulting in the need for surgery.

I don’t know the specifics of the situation in Knoxville, Tenn., and
it may be that this church has done everything possible to provide
a caring atmosphere in their meetings. Plus, the man suing the
church does not say anyone hit him or knocked him over. But
serious accidents are bound to happen if we don’t stress the
importance of ministering with gentleness and wisdom.

In our zany charismatic world we often let our zeal run wild. I’ve
been in services in which all kinds of injuries happened. Once I
watched a 300-pound man fall on a frail woman. I’ve seen heads
hit metal chairs. I’ve seen evangelists step on people’s arms and
legs. We may say the Holy Spirit is moving, but—more often than
we want to admit—our chaos may be a sign of our immaturity.

Please understand me. I desperately want the power of God to
invade our churches. I’ve been in meetings in which the Lord’s
glory was so thick that no one could stand up. I have felt the
weight of His presence fall like a blanket on a congregation. And I
remember falling to the floor when I got within four feet of a humble
Indian preacher who barely touched people on the forehead when
he prayed for them.

We don’t have to force things to happen. God’s power is real. May
we never settle for a man-made imitation.

Born into Brothels – Unfortunate Children Need Love and Your Help

Born into brothels

Unfortunate children

Though precious indeed

Sadly they have great need

As their parents are entangled

Often in prostitution and drugs

Yet like all other tender children

They need love, affirmation, and hugs

Would someone show mercy and care?

Would someone look beyond and dare?

To provide a future and hope to these

Which circumstances have handled roughly

Terrorizing their hearts brutishly and endlessly

Orphans are many and most without a Daddy

As for Mommy she often is engaged elsewhere

Selling her body to men to earn wages and bus fare

Trapped young ladies oppressed by manipulative pimps

Controlling, diverting, disguising, and always domineering

Dashing any hopes of love, life, and peace without strife

The brothels are a place of ill repute and shamefully lewd

Adorable children scathed by circumstances that are rude

Have to hear foul language and see unimaginable acts crude

Is it any wonder they cannot concentrate in school and feud

To survive on the streets and struggle to protect themselves

At what they call home and in their hearts wish to far away roam

Born in brothels is a dreadful existence that makes every heart groan

Yet somehow these kids can find hope when a caring soul arises

Sees past he who despises and earnestly in expectation realizes

That they too can be loved, lifted, nourished, and skillfully educated

Taken beyond this gross society full of sin that has irreverently deviated

Believing in the wonders of God, dreaming beyond the wretched and jaded

Perhaps if just one meek soul could show love to a child feeling alienated

A wonderful rescue of a beautiful child could occur in a world inebriated

If just one person could fight for the innocent children and be infuriated

A mighty deliverance could occur for a child who has prayed and waited.

A Beautiful Cardinal Flew Toward Me

As I walked into my bedroom what did I see?

I looked through the window in the distance

And to my great joy saw God answer for me

A personal prayer I had uttered weeks earlier

A simple and heartfelt request for a cardinal

A beautiful bird I had not seen in some time

Why I desired to see this beautiful red bird

I know not particularly, but it appealed to me

Perhaps cardinals in Florida are a bit of a rarity

Beyond the black birds and bluejays secondarily

From my days as a boy with a birdhouse out back

Sometimes the squirrels the bluejays would attack

Yet today this gorgeous cardinal with an orange beek

Was strangely still as he was listening for me to speak

Fully red from pointed fluffy head to luscious tail

Upon seeing this bird it made me feel quite well

Although in the distance sitting upon my fence

I somehow knew this lovely bird was God sent

For that Sunday in my office I had been writing

But not only writing, also whistling a worship song

A powerful church song in my spirit all the day long

Feeling a sense of sweet serendipity, I watched intently

When suddenly increasing my joy the bird flew to me

Drawing near to hear equally with intense curiosity

Surprisingly straight to me, directly toward the window

Stopping to rest just feet from me upon the clothes line

My spirit rejoiced within, my mind content and sublime

For not only was I aroused by nature but my loving Creator

Who truly answers my heartfelt prayer, proving He does care

Therefore I shall not be trapped by unbelief’s foul snare

Because I know my God knows atop my head every hair

My heavenly Father’s ears are open, His eyes looking down

Undoubtedly upon me His marvelous grace does abound.

Job Hunting – A Full Time Job

Job hunting

Has become to me

A full time job

Never ending

My qualifications

Always refrencing

My past accomplishments

My endless education

My work experience

My professional acquaintance

With key people in the work place

God Almighty give me some grace

To endure and continue pursuing

Meaningful employment without complaining

Because I get rejected because of my skin color,

My age, my looks, my limitations, lack of conformity

My authenticity, humanity, and bold individuality

Shall I cease being a human and just be a conformist

Sell my soul for money and do whatever comes along

Or believe for the best, be selective, and stand strong?

Yes, I have to pay the bills and can’t be a ding dong

For one who doesn’t care for his own family is an infidel

Or even worse according to the Bible, but help me God

I’m drowning in applications and this employment process

Arise and give me a breakthrough loving heavenly Father

For your Name sake answer my prayer and don’t delay

For years of tireless job hunting has left me most weary

As king David in distress prayed, “Send now prosperity”

Enough of my dire poverty, inconsistency, and calamity

Bring on the blessings God and use my talents and ability

To glorify thee and build your people and kingdom in the earth

Bring forth in me professionally and occupationally a new birth.

Open the windows of heaven over me and move hearts favorably

Direct me inwardly by your Spirit so I know where to labor specifically

Whom to entreat professionally and where to work purposefully

Help dear God, hearken to the cry of your child crying out to thee.

Wedding Minister – A Priest & Officiant Who Can Dance & Celebrate!

Who said wedding ministers can’t be creative, dance, and celebrate? Mr. Miagee on the movie Karate Kid said, “Never trust a spiritual leader who can’t dance.”

The last wedding I officiated, after the dinner everybody headed to the dance floor. Many were surprised to see me the wedding minister dancing and rejoicing. Though I got many compliments for the wedding ceremony I performed and was warmly received by everyone, I guess dancing is not the norm for most traditional religious guys.

As for me, I believe a wedding is meant to be an unforgettable celebration to be enjoyed by all. Therefore I did not hold back and went straight out to the dance floor with my wife in hand. We had a blast dancing beneath the stars, while we soaked up the cool spring breeze.

The Bible exhorts us to dance, make merry, and rejoice in the Lord. We should praise the Lord with every available instrument holding nothing back. Let everything that has breath rejoice in the Creator (Psalm 149).

The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). That being said it is right and proper that we should exuberantly celebrate every wedding with joy and dancing. Jesus performed His first miracle at the wedding in Cana, where He turned water into wine (John 2).

A couple deserves to have a personalized and creatively tailor made ceremony. Anything less is average and borders mediocrity. A wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be extraordinary in every detail, the most important being the minister who officiates and speaks to the hearts of all present.

Demon Possession – How To Cast Out Devils

Jesus gave us power over all of the power of the enemy to break demon power and set the captives free (Luke 10:17-21).

I have extensive experience dealing with demon possession, mind renewal, inward transformation, and helping confused individuals become integrated and congruent. The anointing of the Holy Spirit enables me to move in the supernatural power of God to break demonic influences destroying human beings. The truths I am about to teach you, I have personally proven and applied to impact people on every continent.

It is first needful to understand the weapons of our spiritual warfare by which demon power is stopped in its maneuvering. The weapons of our warfare are mighty through God (2Corinthians 10:4). We must remember that our sufficiency is of God and not of ourselves (2Corinthians 3:5). Here are some weapons of our warfare by which we stop the devil from devouring us.

1.The Name of Jesus – (Luke 10:17-19)
2.The blood of Jesus – (Exodus 12:13; Hebrews 9:14; 11:4)
3.The Holy Spirit and His gifts — (Matthew 12:28; 1Corinth.12:7-11)
4.The Word of God – (Matthew 4:10; 8:16; Ephesians 6:17)
5.Praise and worship – (Psalm 8:2; 22:3; 1Samuel 16:23)
6.Prayer — (Daniel 10:10-13; Ephesians 6:18)
7.Spanking and discipline – (Proverbs 22:15; 23:13-14)
If you or anyone you know needs deliverance from demonic spirits, but cannot get to a man or woman of God to pray for and lay hands on them; here are some steps for self-deliverance and how to stay free from demonic influences.

Self-deliverance

8.Get unforgiveness out of your heart – (Matthew 6:15; 18:33-35)

9.Pray for your enemies and yourself – (Job 42:10; Isaiah 52:1-3)

10.Repent of sin that opened the door to demonic influences (Eph.4:27; 1Jn.1:9)
11.Invite Jesus into your life to be your Lord and Savior acknowledging His death, burial and
resurrection (Rom.10:8-13; 8:9; Eph.1:12-13)
12.Associate with godly people who fervently love Jesus (Heb.10:25; Prov.13:20)

Jesus told his disciples to cast out devils (Mark 3:13-15; 16:15-20), but we have created denominations. Man-made tradition and doctrines nullify the Word of God and keep people spiritually powerless (Matthew 15:3,9; 22:29; Mark 7:13).

Paul Davis is a minister who has experienced the power of God personally and ministerially worldwide.

Paul Davis is a worldwide minister with a supernatural touch of God upon his life to deal with demon power and set the captives free.

Paul is full of the Word and Spirit of God, an experienced interdenominational minister, and anointed to move in the supernatural. Paul’s ability to hear God’s voice and flow prophetically is most powerful and impacting.

Bow Before Christ Jesus alone – False Honor to Men of God is Spiritually Destructive

Bow down to Christ Jesus alone. Even the apostle Peter forbid Cornelius from bowing before him (see Acts 10:25-26).

Worship the Lord and lift your eyes unto heaven where your help comes from. Cursed is he who trusts and bows before men (see Isaiah 2:11; Jeremiah 17:5).
