Iran: What Obama Must Do About Iran, Iranian Elections & For the Iranian People

Washington – The National Iranian American Council welcomes President Obama’s condemnation of human rights abuses by the Iranian government and its use of violence against peaceful protesters.

“I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost,” President Barack Obama said today.

According to Trita Parsi, President of NIAC, “condemning violence is different from taking sides in Iran’s election dispute. People in Iran have told NIAC’s Iranian-American membership that they don’t want the US to get itself involved in the conflict, but they do want to see the government’s use of violence condemned.”

Calls by Republican lawmakers to explicitly side with a specific candidate or movement in Iran can be extremely harmful to that candidate or movement. “If our intention is to help, we have to first listen to the people in Iran rather than to pretend to speak for them without ever having had consulted with them,” Parsi added.

Yesterday, Parsi published an op-ed in the Christian Science Monitor pointing out that the Obama administration’s new posture towards Iran has enabled internal Iranian dynamics to bring about the current stand-off. “If America’s posture returns to that of the Bush administration, these indigenous forces for change may be quelled by the forces of fear and ultranationalism,” he wrote.

Paul interviewed Dr. Trita Parsi in Washington DC in January 2008 and was greatly impressed with the intellectual prowess and wisdom of the President of the National Iranian American Council. Parsi is also the author of “Treacherous Alliance” an insightful and powerful read on the relations of Israel, America and Iran.

The last thing the United States (a nation currently in debt $10 trillion dollars) needs is another war to fight considering it has not done too well in Afghanistan and Iraq. Had the Bush administration wisely gone into Pakistan early on as it should have and not redirected foolishly to Iraq, then U.S. troops might not be overburdened throughout the world …which in turn would cause them to be positioned to go into Iran if necessary. But with the current state of affairs (no thanks to the U.S. State Dept which seems to be a pawn on the chessboard for the CIA) and poor showing in international “theaters of war”, the U.S. military has already bitten off more than it can chew and Iran would be another costly mistake.

assalamu alaikum, Obama in Cairo to Muslims worldwide

The expression “assalamu alaikum” is a commonly used greeting in Muslim nations meaning, “Peace be upon you.”

President Obama extended a greeting of peace to Muslims from America. Among the wonderful things President Obama said in his speech to be a peacemaker and heal the wounds between Muslims and Americans,

I’ve come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, one based on mutual interest and mutual respect, and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition.  Instead, they overlap, and share common principles — principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.

I do so recognizing that change cannot happen overnight.  I know there’s been a lot of publicity about this speech, but no single speech can eradicate years of mistrust, nor can I answer in the time that I have this afternoon all the complex questions that brought us to this point.  But I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly to each other the things we hold in our hearts and that too often are said only behind closed doors.  There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground.  As the Holy Koran tells us, “Be conscious of God and speak always the truth.”  (Applause.)  That is what I will try to do today — to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us, and firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart.”

President Obama is truly just what America needs right now by way of foreign policy and his approach with the Muslim world.

American Torture – Reflection not Retribution says President Obama

Considering America’s heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity, it is a bit hypocritical and ironic for President Obama to not offer an apology but merely encourage reflection rather than retribution. While I agree retribution is not the path of peace, nor the way to correct past wrongs; it is worthy to note reflection alone will not produce reformation.

What you fail to confront, you cannot correct. President Obama and the American intelligence community (and individual compliant operatives) need to take a deep look into their heart and soul to see exactly what it is they are about. If covert operations and and intel is merely about propping up U.S. imperialism and keeping the dollar afloat globally as a currency, then don’t expect an apology.

If self-righteousness is the order of the day, then President Obama may want to keep encouraging the CIA along their dehumanizing way. If not, at some juncture our President will have to stand up to the Bush administration and provide more than a pardon.

The world is waiting for justice, truth, and freedom (not just rhetoric about freedom) to prevail. President Obama is positioned to show the world what freedom truly is and is not. If he plays the politician and tries to please both parties (thereby preventing justice) he will do the world, the American people, and himself a great disservice.

Justice must be served, wrongs apologized for, restitution paid, crimes punished, and the people of the world (despite their geographical location or socioeconomic pedigree – or lack thereof) protected.

Vatican Rejects Caroline Kennedy as Obama Envoy to Rome: Pres. Obama Diplomacy Failure

Rome rejected President Obama’s appointment of Caroline Kennedy as an envoy to Rome due to her support of abortion. Perhaps Caroline is not supportive of abortion, but not as adamantly against it as the Vatican.

Nevertheless apparently President Obama did not think this through when he appointed Caroline Kennedy to Rome as a U.S. envoy. The appointment of President Obama seems a bit more like payment for the political support of the Kennedy family during his election.

Certainly President Obama could choose a clergy member from Christendom within the United States, which Caroline Kennedy is not. Nevertheless our prayers and support go to both President Obama, Caroline, and the Vatican.

Iran Pres. Ahmadinejad Congratulates Obama, but Obama criticized by Iran for nuclear opposition Iran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulates U.S. President-elect Barack Obama on his election victory, but then the tongue lashings begin.

Perhaps some conversational hypnosis and conflict resolution training would be useful for Iranian President Ahmadinejad and President elect Obama right about now.

Iran’s Ahmadinejad said that all nations worldwide including the American people expect basic and clear changes in Washington’s foreign and domestic policies. Ahmadinejad is hoping Obama will prefer real public interests and justice and seize the opportunity to serve people so that he will be remembered with high esteem.

Ahmadinejad said Iran welcomes basic and fair changes in U.S. policies and conducts, especially in the region, adding that other nations also expect war-oriented policies to be replaced by the ones advocating justice, respect for human rights, friendship and noninterference in other countries’ internal affairs.

After Obama came out publicly verbally criticizing an attempt by Iran to develop nuclear power, Iran’s parliament speaker criticized the U.S. President-elect Barack Obama for saying that Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon is unacceptable.

Ali Larijani said that Obama should apply his campaign message of change to U.S. dealings with Iran. Larijani feels Obama needs to know change is not simply superficial or rhetorical, but must be expected and implemented within U.S. foreign policy strategy.

Perhaps some conversational hypnosis and conflict resolution training would be useful for Iranian President Ahmadinejad and President elect Obama right about now.

President Obama – Yuan Currency Manipulation, China RMB Rate

U.S. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd responds to reporters concerning his expectation of what President elect Obama will do concerning the China Yuan currency manipulation.

Buy China yuan while the American dollar is strong and wait for U.S. pressure legislatively to be applied during the Obama administration. Huge potential profits as the yuan gets released from captivity to rise to all-time highs.

For those without much intestinal fortitude to ride the waves of change during this unprecedented global financial crisis, park your life savings in gold and watch the currencies of the world unravel after which you can reposition and relocate your fortunes in the appropriate currency of choice once stability returns to global financial markets. Gold has been a timeless and solid bet for savvy investors unwilling to risk their hard earned money. http://www.bullionvault.com/#paulfdavis

In June of 2007, despite pressure from the US Congress, the Bush administration refused acknowledge and cite China as a country that manipulates its currency to gain unfair trade advantages. Yet that finding was quickly challenged by a group of senators who said they would introduce legislation to make it easier for the United States to pursue economic sanctions against China for allowing its currency to rise in value more quickly against the dollar.

American manufacturers contend that China is undervaluing its currency by as much as 40 percent. Contributing to a recession and an unprecedented jobless rate in America, China yuan currency manipulation has produced a massive US-China trade gap exceeding an all-time high of $232.6 billion, one-third of America’s record deficit of $758.5 billion last year.

Expect a majority Democratic Congress and President elect Obama to take aggressive action against China for manipulating their currency and artificially keeping the yuan and RMB rate. The time for change has come and it will begin in the global economy as President Obama applies pressure with his economic team on countries like China who have manipulated their currency, held the yuan down, to profit handsomely at the expense of the U.S. economy.

The Obama administration will not mirror the passivity an complacency of the Bush administration, but rather take aggressive action to remedy the global market injustices and create a level playing field for all in the international markets. That being said, when the strategic economic dialogue is unveiled, as President Obama takes office on January 20. 2009, expect immediate pressure on China and Japan to stop the manipulation of their currencies.

China’s currency hit a new high against the American dollar on in June of 2007 when the United States’ congress began to increasingly demand China increase the value of the yuan more quickly. Once the People’s Bank of China complied and set the midpoint at 7.6282, the minute trading started the 7.63 barrier was instantly broken for the first time since China ended the peg to the US dollar in July 2005.

Although the China yuan is currently allowed to move 0.5 percent up or down the midpoint in a day, expect more pressure to be applied from the Obama administration and Washington upon China in the coming months. This will translate into record highs for those investing in China yuan, as its artificially low valuations break free and begin to rise to all-time highs.

Expect U.S. lawmakers, Chris Dodd, and the Obama administration to put unprecedented pressure on China to stop manipulating their currency and let the yuan rise to all-time highs. Once the controls on the yuan are lifted, the yuan a.k.a. RMB will hit record highs.

That being said, a very safe and wise long-term investment is the China yuan given the fact China holds over $1 trillion of U.S. debt and manufactures countless goods and products bought throughout America by salivating consumers lusting for Chinese items.

For more than half a century, US labor-intensive industry has mostly shifted overseas. Take the shoe industry for example. In 1976, in the US market 53 pairs of shoes per 100 pairs were domestically made. That figure dropped to 22 pairs in 1986; 11 pairs in 1996; and only only one and half pairs per 100 were domestically made in 2006.
Now, 98.5 percent of the shoes worn by Americans are imported. In 2005, the US imported 1.8 billion pairs of various kinds of shoes from China. The average American wore six pairs of shoes made in China.

American lawmakers are adamantly calling for punitive action against China if it fails to take faster action to let the yuan rise. Once President elect Obama enters the White House, expect immediate action against China to ensure compliance and a release of the yuan from captivity and Chinese governmental intervention.

TV Guide and NY Times say Oprah Winfrey’s Empire is Crumbling

TV Guide’s Chloe Tse article dated 05-27-2008 reports tremors in Oprah’s media empire.

According to TV Guide Winfrey’s new-age spiritualism and political persuasion is jeopardizing her marketability in the media, thereby diminishing her status.

Perhaps Winfrey’s longtime reign over the media is coming to an abrupt end. For so long revered as nearly a saint because of her uplifting programming, Oprah is now beginning to receive criticism for her views. It has often been said that one should not talk about their religion and politics. Oprah is defying the odds and daring to do both.

I salute her for her authenticity and boldness to express her individuality. Yet doing so is simultaneously hurting her marketability. Nevertheless on the flip side of that argument, we do well to remember that controversy does sell. Who knows the queen of TV could remake herself into an activist for worthy causes and a voice against social injustice. Nobody can dispute Oprah has done and is doing a lot of good in the world. And with such influence why shouldn’t she let her voice be heard?

The New York Times says Oprah’s choices are gaining skepticism and audiences are tuning out. According to Nielson Media Research, for the third straight year in a row, Oprah is experiencing a decline in audience viewers.

Research shows Oprah’s program has dropped 7% of its viewers this year alone. Oprah’s other projects also seem to be suffering. For example her reality show Oprah’s Big Give debuted this winter with a huge audience and beat every program on television except for American Idol, but also experienced the loss of almost a third of its audience.

Winfrey’s readership of O her magazine, which you would think to have increased with the nonstop promotion of Tolle’s book, suffered a beating and loss of 10% over the last 3 years according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Even Oprah’s favorite and highly promoted books in her book club are suffering harsh criticism. Apparently Oprah either didn’t adequately study the demographics of her viewers, or disregarded her viewers beliefs altogether. Women in the deep south who heavily watch Oprah’s program are typically Christian and many supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton.  Hence Oprah has cut her own throat by alienating Christendom with her new age books and shows, while simultaneously disenchanting white women when she endorsed Barak Obama for President.

As a Christian who read “A New Earth” and found it a in meaningful book, I understand both how Oprah feels and religious folks who don’t play around with their faith. Certainly not all Christians can eat the fish and spit out the bones when reading spiritual truths originating from another ideological orbit. Politically Americans aren’t very tolerant or understanding either, as evidenced by the great political divide in our country between Republicans and Democrats.

I commend Oprah for being true to what she believes in and bold enough to share what she thinks will empower people to live better lives. Her intentions and motives are certainly pure. If Oprah were solely money motivated, she would not continue to promote her spiritual and political views. Yet being already established financially, Oprah is embarking upon larger more meaningful missions to change the world. O Ambassadors is just one new endeavor Oprah is partnering with Free the Children to liberate and educate kids worldwide.

Hopefully Oprah who says she is a Christian will not find problems with parents concerned about their children getting sold new-age ideas. I think Oprah is doing a great work and deserves our support. Yet at the same time we who have beliefs of our own should not be any less vocal than Oprah.

Anything worth having in life requires a sacrifice. For Oprah it is a drop in viewer ratings, book sales, and magazine distribution. Nevertheless the rewards of the sacrifice should be sufficient to warrant the losses. Often we must first be willing to lose in order to win.

It cannot be disputed that ultimately we attract what we are. We cannot please everyone and succeed. We are at our best when we are true to ourselves and transparent about it. That Oprah is and that is why we love her.

Beyond touching hearts and putting tears in our eyes, Oprah also makes people think. Now raising eyebrows and making us scratch our heads, Oprah is finding herself as she further evolves. She recently said on her program that she admits to not having enough time to truly enjoy herself.  Perhaps as Oprah becomes more present and lets go of the ambition of sustaining her empire, critics will be silenced and her true spirit will emerge in purity untainted from the labels many have tried to presumptuously give her.

Dividing audiences is not always a bad thing as even the Word of God itself divides, while exposing our hearts (see Hebrews 4:12). Although Oprah’s television audience is predominately middle-aged white women who support Senator Hillary Clinton, most Americans are awaking to the reality that we need some color in the White House to truly get real and heal the homeland.

Angry criticism of new-age spiritualism and political disputes though a common message thread on the message boards from her website, Oprah will continue to transcend the accusations and come out on top as she honors the God of truth.  Love rejoices in the truth and we should do no less.

Next up for Oprah is OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. featuring programming that will reflect Winfrey’s vision of what she considers empowering programming.

You can’t go wrong when you touch, teach, and transform your audience.

It’s not about being the queen of the media as much as it is about living a meaningful life of purpose to impact humanity.

Obama Wife Controversy & Challenge to Opponents to Show Some Class

Democratic White House front-runner Senator Barack Obama told political foes to “lay off my wife” amid signs she could be a target for self-righteous Republicans desperate to demonize the Democrat in a general election campaign.

The Illinois senator spoke out following the airing of a campaign ad by the Tennessee Republican Party, which used a remark Michelle Obama made earlier this year to question her patriotism.

“If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful, because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family,” Obama told ABC television.

“These folks should lay off my wife.”

Obama said his wife was the most honest person he knew, and “loves this country,” and described the the ad as “low class.”

The campaign ad, posted on YouTube, repeatedly featured a remark by Michelle Obama that “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.”

It juxtaposes her comment with video of Americans from various states, relating why they are “proud” of the United States.

Michelle Obama confidently said in the interview that she believed Americans would not be diverted by the kind of campaign tactics featured in the ad.

“We’re trusting that the American voters are ready to talk about the issues and not talking about the things that have nothing to do with making people’s lives better,” she said.

Obama has a large lead over fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton in the party’s gruelling nominating contests, with the next two primaries in Kentucky and Oregon on Tuesday.

Only five nominating contests remain in total, and Obama, and Republican presumptive nominee John McCain are increasing their attacks on one another in anticipation of a probable general election showdown.

Should a politician’s spouse be fair game during a national political debate?

What do you think?
